THURSDAYS Session 2 (Grades 1-5) Abstract Painting/Drawing & Holiday Card Printmaking (Oct. 16 - Dec. 18) 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
For the first six weeks of classes students will experience the freedom of abstraction through painting and drawing techniques using mixed materials such as acrylic, collage, and charcoal. We will intuitively create abstract images through pattern, texture, and color on a variety of surfaces. Students will also be introduced to a wide variety of Abstract Art History from around the world.
Participants will gain skills in intuitive drawing and painting, collage, canvas preparation and titling of artworks.
The final three weeks of classes students will design and print holiday cards based on California themes of their choice. We will research topics, make initial sketches and designs, and print on paper using relief linoleum printmaking techniques. Students will create a small edition of cards for family and friends.
Participants will gain skills in drawing, relief printmaking, bookmaking, and art distribution.
